Why the Online Intro Course?
This introductory course gives you a comprehensive overview of the grammar, phonology, teaching resources, and methodologies used in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
As our TEFL Tester Intro course is delivered by distance learning, it’s very flexible. You can study from anywhere in the world and since you work at your own pace, it can be easily combined with other work or study commitments.
Course Overview
Section A: Raise your language awareness and brush up your grammar
In this section you will:
- raise your awareness of vocabulary and grammar
- develop your grammar explanations skills
Section B: How to teach English and plan a lesson
In this section you will:
- learn about different teaching methodologies, teaching materials and lesson planning
- get a general idea of what happens in a language class
- activate your critical and creative thinking skills as a future English teacher
Section C: Teaching pronunciation and using the phonemic chart
In this section you will:
- familiarise yourself with the phonemic chart and phonemic script
- learn how to read and write phonemic script
- learn how to use the chart for teaching pronunciation
Section D: How to become an effective teacher
In this section you will:
- raise your awareness of your needs, preferences and learning style as a (trainee) teacher
- find out what kind of teacher you are
- learn about different learning styles and adapt to your students´ needs
Section E: Teaching Practice (optional - if you are able to come to our centre in Malaga or Rome)
In this section you will:
- get the chance to observe a real lesson
- get the chance to teach a real lesson
Required Reading
We will supply the reading material required for these tasks from The Trinity CertTESOL Companion: A guide for English language teachers. If you plan to pursue a career in English teaching then purchasing the full book would be advised. Here you can see the link to buy this online.
Assessment and evaluation
All the assignments you submit will be assessed by your tutor. All tasks must be completed to a satisfactory standard in order to receive the TEFL Intro Certificate.
